We Take History Se
riously & Have Fun Bringing It To Life!

Established on the 1st May 2008 by a group of friends interested in the combat skills of the Dark Ages, we are non-profit making, non-political and members of “The Vikings!”

Our aim is to provide an educational and entertaining portrayal of this tumultuous period in our nation’s past, with equal emphasis placed on both the daily life as well as the more warlike aspects of the age.

We meet for Combat training every week if there isn't an event scheduled. The Cornish warband meet in St Austell and the Devon warband in Yeoford. Approximately once a month we meet as a group, with families and children, for a whole weekend combining Living History with combat training & socialising, punctuated by a banquet on the Saturday night.

Combat
Hildsvin represents the warrior classes of the era, from the lord (or Thegn), to the peasant serving in the defence of his homeland.

Our structure is loosely based on a ship's crew (a Lethang), which was lead by the Sturaesman, who in Viking times was in charge of the steering oar.

Our warriors train regularly, and this means we can stage re-enactments that provide a thrilling interpretation of Dark Age warfare, in a controlled, dramatic and safe environment.

Combat is open to both men and women aged 18 and over. The initial training is based on passing the basic test to ensure that you go on to the battlefield with the knowledge and skill to enjoy yourself safely. When your confidence has grown, further advanced training can be embarked upon.
Living History
Combat provides the excitement, but Living History brings the period to life. Both adults & children have the opportunity to learn about and experience the history and life of our Dark Age past in an enjoyable and exciting manner.

We accurately recreate the arts and crafts of our Saxon & Viking ancestors. Tablet & Trollen Weaving, dyeing using the natural dyes and processed that were used by them, metal & leather working, herbs and food all figure in our Living History.

We welcome non-combatants & especially family groups. To help new members get started there is often spare kit available to borrow, as well as advice and help on making or buying your own. On long dark winter nights many a tough warrior with fingers like hams are as likely to be spied through the curtains embroidering their Kirtle as maintaining their weapons.
