A: FAQ is an acronym for "frequently asked questions."
Q: How do I join Hildsvin? A: Initially contact one of the officers listed on the Contacts page. We will let you know when we are next meeting either for a group weekend or combat training and come along and see us for yourself before you decide.
Q: What if I want to join but don't want to be a warrior? A: Re-enactment isn't just about combat. We try to recreate the whole rich experience of life in the Dark Ages. Many of our members never go onto the battlefield. Living History is a major element of our activities.
A: It's as expensive as you want it to be. Most of our members make some or all of their kit. There is a tradition of sharing skills in Hildsvin. One member may be adept at making clothes and another at Tablet Weaving or shield making. Our aim is to look as authentic as possible and we work together to achieve that end.
A: Hildsvin was originally formed as a Warband and combat training is conducted every week that we are not attending an event. However, Living history is a major part of what we do and we are a family-friendly community. Every member of Hildsvin, warrior or otherwise, is expected take an active part in the Living History element and mucks in when we meet to make everyone's time together enjoyable. Anyway, it's fun!
A: Nor do many of our members when they first join. We research the period and with reference to the Vikings Authenticity Officers we help each other fill in the gaps in our knowledge. We want all our members to "look" the part and be correctly dressed when we attend, or stage events.
A: Basically the answer is no. The photographs and pictures are all copyright and it is an offence to use, copy or publish them without permission - even to use them on your Facebook site. If you want to use them at all then get in touch and depending on what you want to do we can probably sort something out with you.
