Another Season Nearly Over
It's been another busy and successful year for Hildsvin. At one point we lost so many familiar faces the group was, for a time at least, felling quite small. Nearing the end of the year, we are a bigger group that we ever were, with new faces already familiar and battle weary.
We survived Hastings again. Damn those French Archers! And Kim managed to pull off a surprise coup by winning the Cookery competition with her amazing griddle cakes. Tests have been collected like trophy heads on belts, which is a testament to the dedication and enthusiasm of our members. We now have an LHE equal in size and expertise to the warrior contingent, with the young Hildsvin Tuskers going from strength to strength.
This coming weekend we are off to Nailsea to spend the weekend with our friends in Oskorei. So there is going to be much fighting, talking, exchanging stories, feasting and drinking.

A New Year & New Events
It's been a while since we posted anything on the News page. Since August we enjoyed an excellent event in Cornwall in November. Earlier this month we held the Group's AGM, welcome some new members and said a sad goodbye to some old faces who have departed to Vinland, but will hopefully continue to wield sword and shield in the New Worlds.
We now have our very own email discussion system like VMail, called Hogmail and it is proving to not only be an excellent way of making sure that Hildsvin members are kept up to speed, but is fast becoming a useful way for everyone to keep in contact with each other.

Events Gone and Upcoming
We have had a really busy summer and some of our members are starting to feel a bit re-enacted out. All the members should know about the Augsut Bank holiday weekend arrangements and those of you who are interested contactd Trader, Aethelwulf or Ottar.
We are planning a Group Weekend and banquet in September at Yeoford. This will be an opportunity to get your kit right for Hastings. We'll be in touch with a firm date in a day or two.
Tregony was a great success and fantastic fun. We're going to be there bigger and better next year.
I'll be putting some pictures up from the summer events shortly so keep an eye on the site. Incidentally the site seems to be really popular with people all round the world with visitors from the States, Europe and Russia even.

Sampford Brett Village Fête
This is a Hildsvin "minor" event near Taunton, Somerset comprising LHE (1030-1430) & two skirmishes (1100 & 1230). Free camping is available if required and a ploughman's lunch will be provided for members attending (if we can prise the lunch off the ploughman that is).

Crediton
A big thank you to everyone who turned up, or suported us at Crediton. It's been a fantastic weekend. The weather was on our side and "The Vikings" gave the people of Crediton a show like they've never seen. Aethelwulf did the leader bit and ran his Naalbind socks off sorting things out for the group and dealing with our problems. Eir, Freya and Gunna did an amazing job of keeping the Living History together and a big thanks to Eir for feeding the group. Ottar deserves mention as spent the whole weekend nursing his broken leg and sitting in our Living History tent doing a creditable impersonation of "Ivar the Boneless" and keeping the children and Runa in order.

Crediton
The blog is live today (Sunday) from the Crediton event. It's a local event for Hildsvin and we've been busy since Friday morning.Today was the first public event day and the sun was scorching hot. You could have fried eggs on the warriors helmets. The Saxons won the day but an unscripted rematch was resolutely won by the Vikings in a few minutes, leaving Saxon bodies piled up in the middle of the field.
It's a shame that there weren't a few more traders present as we all had money burning holes in our Birka pouches, but Luke from Wight Leather was able part quite a few of us with our money.

Corfe Castle
Congratulations to Thorgeir, Eadmund, Dunstan, Ulthrik & Wulfric who all passed their Safety test at Corfe at the holiday weekend. Dunstan also passed his Single-Handed Spear test!
A really big thanks should go to Hrafnslith for hosting the Corfe event and doing such a good job of it. It was a great and exhausting weekend that not even the overnight thefts of Hildsvin members property from the Plastic camp (by outsiders) could dampen. For future reference at all events, secure your property when you go to bed, you don't know what outsiders are about. Thanks to everyone who offered support and sympathy the next morning.
Much of the attention attracted by Hildsvin was a result of our walking around with Aethelwulf's wolf dog, Runa, who is now an honorary member of the group. For many Hildsvin members it was not only their first proper public event but their first 'real' battle experience and they are now suitably 'blooded.'
We will be meeting up again with all our friends in The Vikings at Crediton (after all, its where we are based) and Hastings.
Some pictures, taken by Carl (Trader), at Corfe are going up on the site this week, so check out the Gallery.

Hildsvin Group Weekend
Thank you to everyone who helped to make the Group Weekend at Yeoford a success. The hard work involved in organising the event seems to have paid off. We learned some lessons from the weekend which we will make use of to further improve your experience for the next events.
